Top Attractions in Wasatch County - According to AI

The new buzzword in town is "artificial intelligence." AI refers to a language model that allows programs to analyze and generate text. AI programs have access to large web crawls. You can ask an AI a question and receive an answer based on the web crawl.

In this project, I asked ChatGPT and Google Bard to list the top ten attractions of the different counties in Utah.

Some of the answers were reasonable. Some were not. For example, Google Bard thought that the Shakespeare Festival takes place in Washington County. You would think The Bard would know all about Shakespeare.

Top Attractions in Wasatch County by ChatGPT

ChatGPT provided a reasonable list. The Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry was renamed Jurassic National Monument in 2019. It is in Emery County.

  1. Wasatch Mountain State Park: This scenic state park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, biking, fishing, and golfing. The park also features stunning mountain views and wildlife sightings.

  9. Wasatch Mountain Golf Course: Offering breathtaking mountain views, the Wasatch Mountain Golf Course features two 18-hole championship golf courses. It's a popular spot for golf enthusiasts of all skill levels.
  10. Swiss Days: Held annually in Midway, Swiss Days is a vibrant festival that celebrates the town's Swiss heritage. Visitors can enjoy live entertainment, Swiss-inspired food, crafts, parades, and cultural activities.

Top Wasatch County Attractions According to Google Bard

Google Bard does not have a solid grasp on the concept of a county. Most of Park City Resort is in Summit County. Deer Valley has a ski lift in Wasatch County. Sundance Resort and Timpanogos Cave are in Utah County. The Soldier Hollow Nordic Center is just outside Heber. The Utah Olympic Park is near Kimball Junction in Summit County. Amusingly, Bard thinks that Jordanelle State Park is in Summit County. I complained about this.

  1. Park City Mountain Resort*. This world-class ski resort offers a variety of terrain for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.
  2. Deer Valley Resort. This exclusive resort is known for its luxurious accommodations and excellent skiing.
  3. The Homestead Crater. This geothermal hot spring is a popular spot for swimming, soaking, and relaxing.
  4. Timpanogos Cave National Monument*. This cave is home to stunning rock formations and a variety of cave life.
  5. Bridal Veil Falls*. This waterfall is a popular spot for hiking, picnicking, and photography.
  6. The Ogden River Parkway*. This paved trail is a great place for walking, biking, and running.
  7. The Provo Canyon. This scenic canyon is home to a variety of hiking trails, waterfalls, and lakes.
  8. The Sundance Film Festival*. This annual film festival is held in Park City and showcases independent films from around the world.
  9. The Utah Olympic Park*. This park was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics and is now a popular spot for skiing, snowboarding, and summer activities.
  10. The Wasatch Mountains. These mountains offer stunning scenery and a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, skiing, and snowboarding.

Conclusion

ChatGPT and Google Bard are interesting in that they provide insight into the way that the Internet sees the local community. I left the mistakes made by Bard to emphasize that the machines are language models. They do not understand the physical world.
