I began the Utah Color project back in 2000 when the Internet was in its infancy.
The goal of the project is to promote local web development and community awareness by creating an independent open directory and calendar for select towns in the Mountain West. I developed the domain HeberCity.biz for Wasatch County, pcut.net for Park City, iMoab.com for Grand County, etc.
My business model was to give free links to local shops while running affiliate ads to pay the hosting bills. This model failed to produce enough revenue to run the sites.
In 2017 I changed the model. Rather than developing sites for towns, I will develop sites for each of the twenty-nine counties in the state.
As I want to promote community awareness, I decided to replace the affiliate ads with direct local ads. The ad rate in January 2017 is $25 for 100,000 page views (a 25¢ CPM). You can see the current rate on the advertising page.
